Mission: Art Abilities' mission is to "Empower intellectually disadvantaged people by helping them in their creative expression through art."Ritika Kumar has worked as an art instructor for adult school for the intellectually disabled in Gateway center for several years. She has witnessed and helped bring about the transformational impact that the care and attention of an adaptive/personalized arts program can have on the lives of these individuals. Often people with intellectual disabilities have difficulty articulating their feelings through words. However, Ritika found that through art, their voice comes through loud and clear. To realize this comprehensive vision, Ritika decided to launch Art Abilities. This non-profit is designed to transform the lives of its intellectually disabled participants and facilitate their personal growth and community integration through their art. Art Abilities will create self-paced, adaptive programs designed to foster the ' self-expression and self-respect needs of its participants. In addition, Art Abilities aims to help its participants become more financially independent through the sales of their work.
